Sharp IIT minds to help lower road accidents

New Delhi: To reduce the number of road accidents and deaths in them across the country, the central government will take the help of IIT engineers. Under this, engineers from various IITs will be trained by giving special training.

Then they will conduct road safety audit of expressways and national highways and give suggestions to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This will resolve the black spots of expressways and national highways.

Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari arrived at the Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion (Safety 2024) World Conference organized at Taj Hotel Palace. He gave information on the ‘consensus for road safety in India’ for five years in the conference organized by the World Health Organization and The George Institute for Global Health.

Gadkari said that there is a need to provide better training to drivers in India. For this, a large number of driving schools will be opened. The Union Minister said that road safety audit has been started under road engineering. Under this, so far 40 thousand crore black spots have been identified and improved.

On the last day of the conference, NITI Aayog member Dr. Vinod K Pal said that the Government of India covers about 18 crore families through the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme. On an average, 1,264 accidents and 462 deaths occur every day in the country.

Two-wheeler manufacturers should provide helmets at a discount

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that two-wheeler manufacturers should provide helmets to vehicle buyers at a discount or reasonable rate as many people die in road accidents due to not wearing helmets. Gadkari said that in 2022, 50,029 people lost their lives in accidents in the country when they were not wearing helmets.
